Q.  As part of our business expansion, my husband and I are creating a new office in the factory. Are there colors or elements we can use to make this office look professional and welcoming and help promote harmony and communication?

Colors and furniture placement are important, but even more important is having the entrance to the new office located in the most auspicious sector. Q.  I read that the back of a house represents career and that water attracts money luck. I have my own business and have set up my home office in the back room of my house. I have placed an aquarium directly facing the front door of my office. Will this help my business? Jesse K.

It might … but those same changes might also have just the opposite effect and create business hurdles. Here’s why: you and your house have individual energy patterns. So, while the back room might be your so-called career sector, it might not be. I had one client who thought that same back area was her career sector — but it wasn’t. In this particular house, the energy patterns were such that the back room was actually her "direction of complete loss." Needless to say, her career did anything but prosper. Also, you must always be careful with moving water. Even if your office is in your career position, the actual timing and placement of the water could activate energies that block your money luck. Without analyzing the Feng Shui of your particular home, I can’t tell what energies your office and aquarium are activating. I can offer you this general advice: pay close attention to what happens next. If your luck seems good, that’s great! But if you start to notice cancellations, opportunities that fall through, minor mishaps, or a slowing of cash flow, remove the aquarium right away.

Q.  How do I know if my Feng Shui and Vaastu is good or bad?

Have you suddenly begun to experience a spate of bad luck? Have you recently moved into your current home and now you or a family member has become ill, suffered financial losses, or experienced career or relationship problems? In your business, do obstacles and setbacks seem to block you no matter how hard you try to fix things? Then it's likely the energy of your environment is affecting you negatively. That's bad Feng Shui. A skilled practitioner can help you achieve good Feng Shui and Vaastu by assessing the energy in your environment and making adjustments to bring the energy -- and your life -- back into peaceful, productive, and healthy harmony

Q.  Our money seems to flow out as soon as it comes in. Is it because our bathroom door is directly opposite our front door -- and is there anything we can do to improve our wealth? Lisa S.

Having your bathroom door directly in front of your main door may not be the only thing causing a loss of money. According to authentic or Classical Feng Shui, many variables affect money: the compass direction your home faces, the natal chart of the home, the external environment, the internal arrangement of your rooms and doors, and your birthdate. To improve your wealth situation, we would need to take a look at all these factors, too. As to the bathroom itself, non-authentic Feng Shui – the so-called New Age Feng Shui –- would have you believe that having a toilet almost anywhere in the home will cause money loss. Some books tell you to place a mirror on the bathroom door to make it disappear or to wrap the pipes in red. This is silly! While it’s not ideal to have the bathroom opposite the front door, that’s where it is. All you need to do is keep the door to the bathroom closed – and take a look at those other variables that seem to be giving your money wings!
